These gemstones are the most valuable ever found. Surprisingly it's not just expensive diamonds that made the list! Ever heard of jadeite for instance...? Subscribe to World5List http://goo.gl/cpJSA6 Find us on... -- http://www.boredbadger.com -- http://www.facebook.com/world5list Have you ever dug up your garden only to uncover a ten thousand dollar diamond? Us either. While that’s unlikely to happen to the average Joe, it’s definitely happened. Join us as we unearth some of the most valuable gemstones that were found in the most peculiar ways! Rare Gem or Paperweight? Imagine you were attending a garage sale or a comic-con convention and you saw a stack of money being used as a paperweight. A bit ridiculous, right? Well that’s kind of what happened to mineral dealer Morgan Sonsthagen. Sonsthagen was attending the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show when he came across a table using a beautiful pinkish-orange rock as a paperweight. Diamond in the Rough During a dig in Russia’s Udachnaya diamond mine, miners discovered a rock with two unusual characteristics - a red and green hue and, oh, 30,000 miniature diamonds. Since the diamonds were so small, they couldn’t be made into jewelry, but the team donated it to science to see if someone could unearth how this rare stone came to be. Finders Keepers America hosts a few mining sites where amateur miners and tourists can search for precious gems. That’s just what Bobbie Oskarson did one day. Originating from Longmont, Colorado, this tourist took a trip to Arkansas, home of the Crater of Diamonds State Park. Turning Rocks into Riches One family of diggers turned their fun hobby into mind-blowing headlines. W. Renn Adams’s family took up the hobby of digging on the family farm to look for interesting, and hopefully valuable, gemstones. The hobby even turned into a business when the family charged the public to dig by hand in the 70s and 80s. After retiring, Adams continued the tradition, but like the generations before, he never found anything with real value. Historic Eruption While this next gemstone is not a huge money-maker due to its rarity, its unique discovery lead to the creation of a large niche in the gemstone market. Volcanoes are infamous for the damage they cause, but a volcanic eruption is what lead to the discovery of one of the most beautiful gemstones ever found. Mount St. Helens, located in Skamania County, Washington, was said to be a dormant volcano where tourists and locals like gather to gawk at its beauty. Big Beauty While the last five treasures we discussed were impressive, we’ve saved the best for last. Just this past October, the mother of all finds was unearthed in Burma. A team of government-employed Burmese miners were working in a mine in Kachin State and simply doing what miners do, searching for precious, valuable gemstones to bring to the man. That’s when they stumbled across a monster of a stone, which turned out to be a nearly 200-ton, 14-foot-high-by-19-foot-long beautiful jade boulder.

Here are the 13 most rare and valuable gemstones and minerals ever seen in the world like the blye Benitoite and red diamonds! Subscribe for new videos Monday Wednesday and Friday! 8. Jeremejevite This mineral was discovered way back in 1883 by a French mineralogist named Augustin Alexis Damour, who named it after the Russian scientist Pavel Vladimirovich Eremeev. The crystal was found on Mt. Soktui in Siberia, Russia. Since then, it has been described as being found in the Eifel District of Germany and in the Pamir Mountains in Namibia. This rare aluminum borate mineral is comprised of variable hydroxide and fluoride ions. 7. Poudretteite This mineral was first found during the mid-1960’s in the Poudrette quarry of Mont Saint-Hilaire, Quebec. However, it wasn’t until 1987 that the poudretteite was fully recognized as a new mineral. Even then, this mineral wasn't described in depth until 2003. As stated by several different sources, it’s believed that only a relative few will ever come into contact with this mineral and let alone ever even hear it mentioned. 6. Grandidierite This is considered to be an extremely rare mineral and gem that was first seen in 1902 on the Island of Madagascar. It was named in honor after the French explorer Alfred Grandidier who once studied the island’s natural history. Grandidierite comes in a bluish-green color and is located almost entirely in Madagascar, although, there was a clean faceted sample that was found in Sri Lanka. Grandidierite is also pleochroic, which means it's able to absorb different wavelengths of light differently and that results in different colors, such is the same ability with the gems tanzanite and alexandrite. 5. Painite This gemstone was first discovered back in the 1950’s in Myanmar by a British mineralogist named Arthur C. D. Pain. For the next several decades only two fragments of the hexagonal mineral were known to exist on earth. By the time the year 2005 rolled around, there were still less than 25 discovered pieces of painite and The Guinness Book of World Records had declared it the world's rarest gemstone mineral. However, that was 11 years ago and since then the origin of the original stones has been found, along with two other major locations that have led to the discovery of thousands of small samples of painite fragments. Even so, they’re still considered one of the world’s rarest minerals. 4. Red Beryl Also known as bixbite, "red emerald", or "scarlet emerald", red beryl was first reported as far back as 1904. Even though its chemical compound is closely similar to that of aquamarines and emeralds, it’s actually considered to be rarer than both of them. What gives the mineral its red color palette is thanks to the presence of ManganeseⅢ+ ions. It can be found in parts of New Mexico and Utah where it’s actually proven to be quite difficult to mine. Because of this, prices for red beryl are known to reach high levels and have even gone on to be around 10,000 per karat for stones. 3. Ammolite This rare gemstone can be found mainly in the eastern region of the Rocky Mountains of North America. Ammolite is an opal-like gemstone that is solely made up of the fossilized shells of extinct animals known as ammonites. This makes ammolite one of the few biogenic gemstones that exist, along with pearls and amber. Ammolites weren’t officially recognized as gemstones until 1981 when they were given official status by the World Jewellery Confederation. That’s also the same year that commercial mining for ammolite began. 2. Tanzanite It’s been said that tanzanite is 1,000 times rarer than a diamond, which might as well be the case considering the fact that it can be found almost entirely near the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro. This is where the perfect conditions lie in order to form the mineral. Like grandidierite, tanzanite is able to produce striking shifts in color based on the crystal’s orientation and the certain lighting conditions. Caltech's geology division states this is because the color variations are caused by the existence of vanadium ions. 1. Red Diamonds Did you know that diamonds come in a variety of colors? In fact, diamonds can range from being yellow, brown, colorless, blue, green, black, pink, orange, and red. That’s also the same order of how rare each diamond is classified as with yellow being the least and red being the most. Not only that but diamonds are also the hardest natural substances that form here on earth. Just like the colorless diamond, the red diamond is made purely out of carbon, however, what gives the diamond its red color is actually a deformation of their atomic structure that’s known as a “plastic deformation”. The Moussaieff Red is the largest red diamond in the world among the little known other red diamonds that have been discovered.

Note: just because it’s found on earth, doesn’t mean it’s from it! 10. Tanzanite 9. Grandiderite 8. Black Opal 7. Taaffeite 6. Alexandrite 5. Musgravite 4. Painite 3. Serendibite 2. Red Diamonds, Pink Star Diamond 1. Jadeite Poudretteite This mineral was first found during the mid-1960’s in the Poudrette quarry of Mont Saint-Hilaire, Quebec. Though it does resemble the impact it would have on your wallet if purchased. Painite is a very rare borate mineral. Humans first documented its discovery in the 1950’s when a British mineralogist found Painite in Myanmar. The man’s name was Arthur Pain. When it was found out that Arthur had discovered a new mineral, the gem was named after him. Painite is made up of calcium, zirconium, boron, aluminum and oxygen, giving it a complex and unique formula. To add to its peculiarly, it contains chromium and vanadium as well, though a very small amount. The gem is naturally an orange-red to brownish-red color much like topaz that is colored by iron. They are naturally hexagonal as well and are rarely cut. It is believed that Painite is worth about $60,000 per carat, but as it is so rarely available, an exact estimate is nearly impossible. #8 Musgravite While it has nothing to do with muskrats, it is named after the Musgrave Ranges in Southern Australia. The first Musgravite was discovered in 1967 there and so there is no real original reason behind its name. This gem comes from the same family as Taaffeite, another valuable gem. Musgravite is naturally colorful as the range is broad, for this reason, you will see greenish gray gems as well as bright purple. At first, it was believed to be the only location for the gem, but it was later found that they could be discovered in Greenland, Antarctica, Sri Lanka, Madagascar and Tanzania. It is made up of Magnesium, Beryllium, Aluminum, Zinc, Iron, and Oxygen. The largest known musgravite is owned by Multicolour.com and weighs 5.74cts. The market price starts sat $35,000 a carat. #7 Jewel of Kashmir The title Jewel of Kashmir has been given to a very exclusive deep blue gemstone. It hit a record sale at an auction as The Jewel of Kashmir, a 27.68-carat Kashmir sapphire and diamond ring. It sold for a groundbreaking price per carat for a Kashmir sapphire. It was auctioned off at Sotheby’s Hong Kong Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite Autumn Sale. The hue is said to be a “cornflower blue” or royal blue and is of an emerald shape. It sold for more than $6.7 million or, a better described worth would be to say $242,145 per carat! The high clarity, sapphire color, and emerald cut give the Jewel of Kashmir a breathtaking look unlike any other. The Gübelin Appendix Letter stated that the jewel 'possesses a rich saturated and homogenous colour, combined with a high degree of transparency, and a finely proportioned cut...Such a combination of characteristics are rare in natural Kashmir sapphires of this size.' It also noted that 'a natural sapphire from Kashmir of this size and quality is very rare and exceptional and thus can be considered a true treasure of nature.' Kashmir sapphires themselves are very rare and unique, but the Jewel of Kashmir topped them all. It’s a mystery what draws us to its soft, velvety, rich and lustrous appearance. But there is a reason this gem is worth over $6 million. The first Kashmir mine was discovered in the 1880’s but it was hard to mine there due to weather conditions. They could only last for seven years before shutting down. So most of the Kashmir jewels today still come from that 1880’s mine! #6 Virgin Rainbow You’ll have to see the Virgin Rainbow to believe it! Even after you see it, you’ll never believe that it’s simply an opal! In fact, it’s one of the largest, rarest, and most valuable opals in the world! It is worth more than $1 million and with good reason. It is rich in both colorful elements and light-refracting details. Opals are a form of amorphous hydrated silica with up to 20% water locked within the silica structure and took thousands and thousands of years to form. Over 95% of the world’s opals come from Australia, so the story behind this beauty is no surprise. It was found in Coober Pedy of southern Australia by miner John Dunstan who says, "That opal actually glows in the dark - the darker the light, the more color comes out of it, it's unbelievable." Who doesn’t want a glow in the dark, rainbow opal? The colors range from white to black to red, blue, pink, orange, yellow, green and more! Interesting fact, the Virgin Rainbow is an opalized fossil, which means the shape and initial formation of the opal replaced a fossil, likely from an ancient ancestor of today's cuttlefish. I heard that it was bad luck if you bought yourself an Opal, that it has to be gifted to you by someone.

The Heart of Eternity ($16 million) The stone that was made into the heart of Eternity Diamond was found at the world’s largest supplier of blue diamonds, the South African Premier Diamond Mine. Blue diamonds are incredibly rare with, on average, only one being found every year, and this one was an amazing find. The rough stone was 777 carats when it was dug up, and the owners waited until they had the perfect design idea before they started cutting it. The result was The Millenium Blue Diamonds- a series of heart, pear drop and oval shaped diamonds of which the Heart Of Eternity is the largest. In recent years it has been on tour at various exhibitions, including at the Millennium exhibition in London in 2000, followed by the Smithsonian museum. It was reportedly bought in 2012 by Floyd Mayweather to give to his fiancée, but no details of the selling price were ever revealed. The $16 million price tag is an estimate based on its size and color, but the finished piece could be worth far more when you consider what a rare piece it is. 9. The Moussaieff Red Diamond ($20 million) Diamonds come in many colors, but red ones are particularly rare. According to the Cape Town Diamond Museum there have only been up to 30 true red diamonds ever found, with most of them being less than half a carat. A farmer in Brazil found the rough stone that was to become the Moussaieff Red Diamond in the 90’s. At a weight of 13.90 carats it immediately became the center of attention. The William Goldberg Diamond Corporation from New York then bought it, and decided to cut it into a triangular brilliant cut. This process would mean losing 8.79 carats, but the resulting cranberry colored 5.11 carat gem is simply stunning. It was originally named the Red Shield, but was renamed by the Moussaieff Jewelers when they purchased it for about $8 million at the turn of the century. This diamond has regularly been to exhibitions, being shown alongside other ones in the Smithsonian. Were it to be sold, it would be expected to cost at least $20 million. 8. The Perfect Pink ($23 million) When it sold for $23 million in 2010, the Perfect Pink Diamond was the most expensive jewel that had ever been sold in Asia. It weighs 14.23 carats, is graded as fancy intense pink, and is set in a rose and white gold ring with rectangular shaped diamonds on either side. Pure Pink diamonds of more than 10 carats are very unusual, with only 18 examples having gone to auction in the past 244 years; none of which was classified as intense pink at the time of sale. This makes the Perfect Pink a truly unique piece, and explains why it sold for ten million dollars more than had been expected. 7. The Wittelsbach Diamond ($23.4 million) The first records of the Wittelsbach Diamond come from back in the 17th century when it was sold to Louis XIV of France. It has a rare blue color, and weighs 35.56 carats. The stone has a royal history, having been passed down through families since the 1600’s. It went from France, to Spain, and over to Germany, where it accompanied the German King Louis III to his burial place in 1921. At some point in the 30’s it was sold to raise money for the German government, and from here things get mysterious. No one seemed to know who had bought it, and it somehow got replaced with a piece of blue glas in the museum. Rumors of the actual diamond changing hands were rife in the following decades, until 1962 when it reappeared at a jewelery store in Belgium. It was sold in 2008 for $23.4 million and, to the dismay of diamond historians, the new owner decided that it should be recut, since it had originally been done in the early 1600’s. The resulting stone, now 21.06 carats, meant that both the color and quality were improved, and the estimated price sky-rocketed.
